Importing IFC data

Module(s): Interfaces

You can use Import IFC Data to import an IFC model in the formats certified by buildingSMART. The IFC interface transfers geometric data of elements and the attributes assigned.

IFC supports Allplan's methods of working by providing an intelligent description of building elements. In addition to the building topology, which is transferred to the building structure, the IFC interface imports the associated components with all associated data and information (type, geometry, material properties, layout properties and element attributes).

To import an IFC file

  1. Click Import IFC Data (How).
  2. Click Settings to specify settings for the IFC interface.
  3. Enter the path and file name in the data entry box or click Browse ... to select the path and file in a dialog box.
  4. Select the format of the IFC file in the File type area.

You can choose between IFC and IFC XML.

  5. Specify the first drawing file in the 'Select File' dialog box.

The data is imported to consecutive drawing files.

It is assigned in accordance with the structural levels in the IFC model (story, building, site). If the IFC structural levels imported match the current building structure of the project, the new drawing files are assigned directly to the building structure.

Note: If the current project does not contain a building structure, an IFC-compliant building structure is created and the drawing files are assigned automatically when you import the IFC model.

Tip: You can also import IFC files by dragging them from Windows Explorer into the workspace or by double-clicking an IFC file.
