Moving dimension text

Module(s): Dimension Lines

You can use the Move Dimension Text tool to move individual dimension text.

To move dimension text

1. Click Move Dimension Text (How).
   

   Activate Move Dimension Text in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Modify Dimension Lines

   • Toolbar: Basic Tools Dimension Lines flyout
   • Palette: Tools Modify area in the following module(s):

   Dimension Lines

2. Click the dimension text you want to move.
3. You can use the Input Options to specify the direction in which the dimension text can be moved:
   • Parallel: you can only place the dimension text along the dimension line; the spacing between the dimension text and dimension line is fixed.
   • Perpendicular: you can only place the dimension text so that it is perpendicular to the dimension line; the spacing between the dimension text and dimension line changes.

     Tip: Clicking Parallel or Perpendicular again switches the relevant option off and you can move the dimension text anywhere.

4. Click the starting point for the move.
5. Click in the workspace to specify a new location for the dimension text.

   When you move dimension text of curve or angle dimensioning, the program automatically rotates the dimension text so that it is parallel to the tangent of the dimensioned curve.

Note: If you use Adjust Location to correct the dimension line later, the dimension text will return to its original position.
