The Detailing module allows you to define an area that can be displayed at different scales. With detailing windows, changes to the design only need be done once. Elements in regions also displayed in a detailing window are automatically updated there (i.e. in the detailing windows), too.

Note: Filesets are no longer required for using detailing windows. In this case, use one drawing file only. If you want to use several drawing files and detailing windows, it is advisable to create a fileset.

A fileset is a compilation of drawing files. For example, all the drawing files in a story can be combined into one fileset. A fileset can contain up to 128 drawing files. A drawing file can also belong to several filesets.

Note: When you place a document containing detailing windows as a XRef, the detailing windows are only displayed when the XRef in question is placed using the Normal setting (detailing windows are not visible with the Advanced setting).

Creating a detailing window involves the following steps:

• Define the area that you want to view in detail. Also, define the scale at which the elements in the area are to be displayed.
• Place the detailing window as you wish. All the elements in this area as well as any elements you draw in the area from now on are also displayed in the detailing window. You can use Show in Detailing Window Only on/off (How) to configure the system to create any new elements in the detailing window only and not in the original drawing.
