Format properties of (instances of) smart symbols

There are times when you will find that you want to use different colors to place the same smart symbols in the workspace. In other cases, color design is very important for smart furniture symbols, for example, and colors are thus part of smart symbols.

When defining a smart symbol, you can use the Format attribute (Attributes area) to specify how the format properties of the smart symbol and its components behave:

• When set to Element, every individual element of the smart symbol is drawn with the format properties that were specified when the smart symbol was saved.
• When set to Placement, all the elements of the smart symbol are drawn with the format properties assigned to the instance of the smart symbol.

You can modify instances of smart symbols you have already placed in the workspace using Modify Smart Symbol Instance‘s Attributes.
