Associative views and sections are always created across drawing files. As a result, they are always created in the current drawing file. If the 3D models of the individual elements are not in the current drawing file, the drawing files are linked. In this case, there are some issues to bear in mind when managing data:

• You can use Copy, Move Elements between Documents to copy or move the views and 3D elements to one or more drawing files within a project. In this case, the destination drawing file cannot be displayed. Drawing files that are internally loaded later cannot be specified as destination drawing files.
  When moving data, you need to select all the files that are linked. When copying data, you can also copy the 3D elements alone. As a result, you get drawing files without links. It may be necessary to additionally select drawing files you have already copied or moved.

  When working with the Clipboard, you can only copy data across drawing files. If you have not selected the 3D elements together with the views, the original drawing files, from which you copy data, must be open in edit mode.

  Tip: If you want to combine several 3D elements that are spread among different drawing files into one drawing file, it is a good idea to use Copy and Paste to Original Position. Afterwards you can delete the drawing files with the duplicate 3D elements.
  To combine several views and sections, you are advised to use Copy, Move Elements between Documents to move them together to a new, empty drawing file.

• Using ProjectPilot, you can copy and move the data both between projects and within a project. The numbers of the destination and source drawing files are the same. To ensure that existing data is not overwritten inadvertently, Allplan checks whether copying or moving will affect drawing files that are in use.
  When copying or moving data between projects, you can only select one linked drawing file. Then you can specify whether to copy or move all the linked drawing files or the selected drawing file only.
  If you copy or move all the linked drawing files, Allplan creates new links between the new drawing files. If you copy or move the selected drawing file only, Allplan does the following:
  • When copying within the project, Allplan creates another link to the existing drawing files.
  • When copying or moving data between projects, the links are lost. As a result, drawing files that only contain views and sections are empty afterwards.
• Using the Library, you can create a symbol based on the 3D elements or all the drawing files that are linked and then place this symbol in an empty drawing file.
  Afterwards, you can use Copy, Move Elements between Documents... to move the 3D elements of the general arrangement, the reinforcement model and the views and sections to a separate drawing file each.
• When copying the drawing files in Windows Explorer, you need to make sure that you copy all the linked drawing files to the same numbers as the data does not update automatically.
