Three-Point Canopy, Four-Point Canopy

Module(s): 3D Modeling

You can use the Three-Point Canopy, Four-Point Canopy tool to design linear 3D surfaces or 3D solids with three or four corners. A special point about these objects is that they curve downward or upward in the middle, which is the result of triangular decomposition. This way, you can design awning as well connect elements with different heights with a surface or 3D solid and thus create "warped" surfaces and solids.

Possible applications: ramps, floor drain applied to cementitious tanking, small terrain models or custom roof shapes applied to irregularly shaped outlines (as a 3D solid which is then converted to planes)

To create a curved surface with three or four corners

  1. Click Three-Point Canopy, Four-Point Canopy (How).
  2. Click the corners of the canopy.

Note: The process of entering corners terminates automatically after you have specified four corners. If you want to create a three-point canopy, press ESC to finish after you have entered the third corner.

  3. Enter the parameters for the canopy.

Click Apply every time you change a parameter to make sure that the canopy is calculated again. The preview is updated accordingly.

  4. When you activate Object, you can enter its bottom level. Click a point in elevation or isometric view.
  5. Click OK when you are satisfied with the result.
