Importing CINEMA 4D data

You can use this tool to import 3D data in C4D format from CINEMA 4D (Version 12 and later) to Allplan. The C4D files are imported using MAXON's melange interface, which is available in CINEMA 4D version R12 or later.

Note: You can still use drag-and-drop operations to import XML files for CINEMA 4D R9.5 and later. You can only import data you exported to CINEMA 4D using the Export tool on the File menu in Allplan.

To import data from CINEMA 4D

• You need to select the following option in CINEMA 4D to ensure that C4D files can be imported from CINEMA 4D Release 12 and later:
  Program defaults - Document - Save polygons for melange exchange

1. Click Import CINEMA 4D Data (File menu - Import)

   Or:

   in CINEMA 4D click Send to Allplan on the File menu

   Or:

   Drag the C4D file into the workspace.

2. Select C4D for the File type.
3. Select the file you want to import and click Open to confirm.

   The data is created in the current document.

Possible system messages when importing C4D data

• Number of objects that are not supported (not imported): #
  This value shows the number of objects that could not be imported as they are not displayed (zero objects) or as they cannot be imported yet (e.g. splines).
• Error while reading file "xyz". Check that the file was saved using CINEMA 4D R10.
  The melange interface is available in CINEMA 4D version R 10.5 and higher. The data must be saved in this (or a higher) version using the Program defaults - Document - Save polygons for melange exchange option.

Possible system messages when importing XML data

• Error during XML_READER::CXMLReader::ReadVersion
  The XML document is structured in an unexpected manner or it is too large.
  It was probably not created in CINEMA 4D using File - Export - Allplan.
• Can't load XML document: ‚C:\...\name.xml'
  Document incomplete or defect
  The XML document is incomplete or corrupt.
• The validation of following objects failed
  (the objects will not be transfered to Allplan's database).
  CNOI_BasisVolume3D - object failed. (...)
  NOI-exception: (TROUBLE_WITH_WARPED_FACE8)
  (the objects will not be transfered to Allplan's database).
  The file contains an object with warped surfaces.
