Sun study palette

Tool(s): Record Movie -> Sun study

Sun study

Start time / End time

Select the start time and end time between 00:00 and 23:59.

The start time must be earlier than the end time. You cannot create a sun study beyond midnight, extending into the next day.

AVI movie

Name

Name and folder of the AVI file; if you have chosen to save the individual images (see Keep images), you can also find them in this folder. The program adds the name specified as a suffix.

Tip: If you want to run a movie without recording it, leave the Name box empty.

Compression

You can use this button to specify whether the movie is to be saved in uncompressed format or in compressed format using a compression method installed on your computer. Compressed formats require less space.

We recommend Microsoft Video 1 (low compression, high quality) and Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V2 (high compression, low quality).

Other codecs require a certain resolution (e.g. 640 x 480), or restrictions apply and/or there is a loss of quality.

Keep images

In addition to the AVI movie, the program saves all images calculated (see Number of images) to the folder you selected when you entered the Name.

Settings

Calculation

Select Animation if you want to display the images or the movie in the same manner as in the Animation view type.

If you want to render the images, select Renderand define the options for rendering.

Render options

You can see these options only if you have set the Calculation method to Render.

Click Edit to set the render mode and define additional parameters for rendering.

Size

You can specify the resolution of the rendered image using the Render size palette.

Total time in seconds

Total running time of the movie in seconds.

Images/seconds

Specify how many images are calculated per second. The aim is to produce a movie that will run as smoothly as possible. If you change the setting for the number of images per second, the total number of images changes correspondingly and thus the required disk space, too.

Tip: As a rule, 15 images per second are sufficient for AVI movies.

Render

Number of images

You can see how many images are calculated for the movie. If you want to change this value, change the Total time in seconds or Images/second parameter.
